This will be one of the best things that you can ever teach your child. Cooking is a great thing to teach your children cause at some point in there lives they will need to know. Starting when they are young is the best thing to do. There if nothing wrong with your three or four year old helping you prepare a meal. This will be an adventure to them they love to help mom or dad or any family member or friend. Note to never get angry when your child causes a mess when cooking with you, and always keep it fun for your child and have patience's.Start your younger kids off with the stirring, allow them stir simple things like muffin mix, or cornbread mix mostly anything that you can stir, but don't have to use as much muscle. Allow them to be your little mixers, and once they begin to grow that can be your flippers. Note to never allow them to come in contact with anything that is hot and never in reach of a hot oven/stove.
When that are helping you always talk and show that what they are doing is making you very happy. Once your children get around 6 or 7 years of age they can start to do bigger and more difficult task. Showing them how to measure ingredients and reading directions off a food container box also allowing them to put it all together will be a treat for children.
Let your children help you make cookies. Kids for some reason love to bake cookies I think it's the after event that they get to eat them. Allow them to make the kool aid on there own. Give them the correct measure of how much sugar to put in. This will be something simple and great and when you drink be sure to let them know how much you love it.
Once your child have reached a different stage then you can share with them recipes that you would like for them to follow. With your assistances allow them to do mostly everything on the recipe and let them know how proud you are. If you start early then by the time that reach 5th or 6th grade that will be able to do a recipe that you will provide for them. The use of any sharp utensils will need to be decided by you and the maturity of your child.
