Wide-eyed and thick-voiced Zooey Deschanel stars in Sci-Fi's original miniseries Tin Man. If Zooey Deschanel looks familiar, but you can't quite place her, close your eyes and listen to her voice. Yes, that was her as a blond, in Elf, proving that her beautiful voice matches the rest of her.

Tin Man, Zooey and Sci-Fi

The Sci-Fi Channel original miniseries Tin Man is a reworking and modernized telling of Frank L. Baum's classic tale, The Wizard of Oz. Expect the usual fare from Sci-Fi productions including fantastic elements, special effects, and some over-the-top acting. And I mean that in the most affectionate and endearing of ways.

The Tin Man miniseries with Zooey Deschanel premieres with Part one on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 9pm EST. Part one of Tin Man can be viewed again on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 7pm.

Part Two of Sci-Fi's Tin Man original miniseries premieres on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 9pm, with repeat showings at 11pm and at 1am. Part Two can also be viewed again on Wednesday, December 4, 2007 at 7pm.

Part Three premieres on Wednesday, December 4, 2007 at 9pm, with repeat showings at 11pm and at 1am.

Tin Man vs. The Wizard of Oz

According to the Sci-Fi Channel, there are some serious differences between the innocent, rainbow-laden original and the Sci-Fi miniseries.

The first difference is the character of Dorothy, played by Zooey Deschanel. In the Sci-Fi Channel original miniseries Tin Man the character's name is DG. Sci-Fi describes this modern heroine, played by Zooey Deschanel, as "having the street sense and ironic streak of a big-city goth" even though she lives in Kansas. (Sci-Fi.com)

The Tin Man himself is a "Resistance Fighter" whose wardrobe is a marriage between a bounty hunter and Indiana Jones.

Also worth mentioning is the updated take on The Wicked Witch. This character has been re-envisioned as Azkadellia. Azkadellia is played by Kathleen Robertson, whose hair for this miniseries has not improve much on her hairstyling missteps from her Beverly Hill 90210 days. Sorry. It had to be said.

I actually am enjoying Tin Man, although I was prepared to hate anything that compared itself to the original. But it realy isn't. It is new and has some refreshing ideas. I do wish, however, that it was a smidgeon less dark.
