Anyone who go's on the net or knows someone who does at some point has heard about MySpace and Facebook . These are two really good programs in some aspects but in others seem to be a real danger.

MySpace is a public forum more less to post your blogs and videos and so on where as Facebook is a friend finder program with a little MySpace thrown into it. I have used MySpace and have a profile there and also on Facebook. Out of the 2 Facebook seems to have more danger in it.

For example, after signing up you create your profile then off you go adding details like where you live and so on. Well after this all your details are available to your friends on your list but only them. This is where it starts to get dangerous though. Once those friends are on your list then their friends can see your info and so on.

I have been a member of Facebook for months and yes it has worked in helping me find a lot of old friends I haven't seen in awhile I have also noticed that everyone puts all their info on there and anyone could eventually get it. Adults are a little smarter but kids are a little more trusting but this is how a young teen lost her life off Facebook.

About 1 month ago I got a thing from my mom on Facebook to join a cause to find a 16 or 17 year old who disappeared after meeting someone off Facebook. Well weeks went by the eventually the grim discovery of her body was found with no trace of the killer from what I heard.

Thats the point I'm trying to hammer in that are kids are in big danger on these programs and since there's no real way of keeping our kids off them then what? These are huge sites with no sign of being shut down anytime soon. Both Facebook and MySpace are coming out with new applications everyday.

So all we can really do is keep a closer eye on our children when they are on the net and try to filter out what they are doing on line. In my opinion the Facebook and Myspace are good sites for adults but still a danger especially for our children.

Nice article. This information needs to be passed on to more parents. My sisters 14yr old daughter was stalked and molested by a Facebook predator this past spring. She didn't post her name address or phone number on her profile but she did post photos. The man admitted to the police that he found out who she was by chating with someone in her friends list. These sites claim to be safe but perverted hackers and pedofiles are persistant and they will eventually find out where your children live and go to school. There is no way I will ever let my daughter on these social networking web sites. IMO a cell phone with unlimited texting is all "the social networking" a teenager should ever need.
