Christmas is one of the most family oriented Holidays of the year. Families all join together to celebrate the holiday season and spend time together before beginning another long year. For kids it is the most exciting Holiday and one of great joy. Why not make it even more exciting and family oriented by making your own personalized Christmas stockings for you and the kids? It's easy enough that anyone can do it, sewing experience or none. If you're not necessarily a crafty sewing person it's ok, they now make the handy sewing paper that when applied with an iron sews whatever fabric you've put it between together. Of course if you have and know how to use a sewing machine then you are ahead of the pack with this craft. Whether you sew or use the handy paper, it only takes a few minutes to draw your stocking pattern on the fabric, cut two of the patterns out, and sew them together. Then you can add any and all decorations you can imagine to make it a very special stocking. The basis of the stocking is any fabric you would like to use this can be satin, velvet, cotton, fur, or any other fabric that expresses you. The best place to find good fabric at a good price is at Wal-Mart. They carry all kinds of velvet and furry fabric that is perfect for beautiful stockings. You will want the basic stocking and then the fur go to around the upper part of it so about half a yard of the basic and a quarter of a yard of the furry pattern should be good enough for one stocking. Wal-Mart also sales the iron-on sewing paper so I always make that my hobby shop stop. Hobby-lobby and Michael's craft shops also carry all that you would need to do this project, however I find them to be a little more expensive unless it's on a sale day. You will also want to pick up any decorations that you want to add to the stockings. Good ideas are fabric paint, beads, glitter, patches, iron on decorations, or you may want to splurge a little and go for the printable iron on paper to make your own design on the computer and add it to your stocking.
