So, you're headed to the Big Apple to experience Christmas in all its commercial, larger-than-life glory. I'm sure you've got a visit to the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree planned, and maybe tickets to see the Rockettes at the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. But New York City has a wealth of other things to do that aren't necessarily on the typical tourist's itinerary. Here are five things that are must-see!

1. Holiday Market at Union Square
This delightful market is reminiscent of small town craft fairs, albeit in the middle of a large city. Over 100 merchants set up in trademark red and white striped booths, selling everything from gloves and ornaments to less traditional Asian-inspired lamps and African-style crafts. Whether you're just browsing or want to find a truly original, handmade gift, this is the place to go. The market is open from November 24 to Christmas Eve. Hours: Monday-Friday, 11am to 8pm; Saturday, 10am to 8pm; Sunday, 11am to 7pm. Special Christmas Eve hours: 10am to 4pm. Other markets in the city: Grand Central Holiday Fair, Holiday Crafts Park Avenue ($10 entry fee), Holiday Gift Shops at St. Bartholomew's, and the Holiday Market at Columbus Circle. Check out www.nymag.com for more information. Just search for NYC holiday markets!
