Mandarin Drink by Jarritos: Review
Jarritos is a Mexican company that manufactures soft drinks in a variety of flavours, such as watermelon, lemon, and Mandarin.
Many well known soft drinks such as Coke, Pepsi, 7-up and others contain very high levels of sugar and caffeine and very little in the way of real nutrition. Just a single can of coke can
contain several spoonfuls of sugar.
Taste
I was first introduced to the Jarritos brand of drinks when a friend bought me a soft drink to try. At first I was dubious about trying a soft drink, as I usually just drink water. But I tried it anyway and was surprised to find that it was quite refreshing. My friend explained that the reason why it was not as sweet as American drinks was because this company just adds pure sugar to each drink, rather than high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients intended to intensify the sweetness of drinks. I was pleased to learn that natural fruit flavours were used in Mandarin Jarritos, as well as other varieties of Jarritos drinks.
Price
Mandarin Jarritos cost just $0.64. Similar brands of drink were much cheaper, but they also contained more than twice as much sugar, which was unappealing.
Nutrition
Each 240ml (8fl oz) serving of Mandarin Jarritos contains 110 calories, no fat or cholesterol and only 25mg of sodium. There are 29g of carbohydrates and 29g of sugar. The calorie content is fairly low for a carbonated drink and the sodium content is very low. But the carbohydrate and sugar content is a little on the high side. This drink would be best enjoyed with lots of ice and shared between two people, as it is intended to serve two rather than one.
Ingredients
Mandarin Jarritos contains does not contain a long list of unknown ingredients that require a dictionary to define what they are. The ingredients include carbonated water, sugar, citric acid, natural flavour, sodium benzoate (as a preservative) yellow 6 and red 40.
