Daydreaming of palm trees, white sandy beaches and clear waters? Consider visiting the island of Jamaica located in the Caribbean Sea, South of Cuba. It is a frequently visited island for families at all-inclusive resorts. This island has 200 miles of beautiful beaches and there are 87 public beaches. Here's some beach information:Doctor's Cove Beach (Montego Bay) - This is a favorite beach for families and covers an area of about five miles. There are facilities and a beach bar. Waters are crystal clear. There is an admission fee.
Cornwall Beach (Montego Bay) - Although lovely with white sand and clear water, this beach is usually crowded and full of vendors harassing tourists with bargaining tactics.
Treasure Beach (South Coast) - You won't find crowds at this beach, but beware of the undertow. Crashing waves add to the scenery making it one of the most eye-catching beaches in Jamaica.
Boston Bay Beach (Port Antonio) - Located 11 miles east of Port Antonio on Jamaica's northeast coast and is secluded. Unfortunately, most of the beach has washed away, but it is very popular among surfers as the tides are often high. There are crystal waters and coconut palms - this beach is beautiful and some people snorkel for lobster. Being a bit out-of-the-way, catch a ride to the beach with a cab driver.
Frenchman's Cove (Port Antonio) - This is a small cove but well worth the visit because it has one of the prettiest white sandy beaches. There is fresh water and sea water due to the fact that a stream feeds into the sea. There are facilities, a snack bar and a secure parking lot. There is a fee to use this beach and it is closed on Tuesdays.
A minority of beaches (about 18) do not have facilities for changing, toilets, solid-waste receptacles, parking lots or security. Before venturing out to spend a day at a particular beach, know beforehand what facilities are available.
Jamaica's climate is tropical with hot, humid temperatures but the island's interior is not subject to prolonged hot weather. Jamaica is sunny year-round and it's rainiest months are May and October. June and September receive a fair amount of rain too.
