5 Christmas Decorations Made from Placemats
Embed:
You can use placemats to make fun Christmas decorations to use around the house. I came up with many of these Christmas crafts made from placemats after years of finding super cheap placemats at flea markets, yard sales, and my old china cabinet! The next time you are at the local good will and see that stack of mismatched placemats for 25 cents a piece, keep some of these recycled Christmas crafts and holiday decorations in mind.
Recycled Christmas Craft #1: Christmas Garland
Go ahead and cut your placemat out into strips of fabric that are about three inches wide and 7 inches long. Fold all ages over and iron them down. Now, use the sewing machine to hem them.
Now, take ½ of the strips and fold them into a circle, you want the front of the fabric on the inside. Sew the two ends together and turn inside out. Take the remainder of the strips and use them to hook all the rings together to make the garland.
Simple loop a strip through two circles. Fold the rough ends down and then place them together. Sew the ends together.
Recycled Christmas Craft #2: Christmas Quilt
Take each placemat and cut them down into square that are about 5 by 5 inches. Try to mix and match the fabric on the placemats for this one.
Use some of the fabric to cut out Christmas trees, letters to spell out Christmas words, bells, angels, and other Christmas images.
Sew one image on to each square to create the Christmas theme.
Now, sew together like you would a normal hand sewn quilt.
Tip: for this one try us e use soft fabric placemats. Rougher fabric or stiff placemats will not make the most comfy quilt.
Recycled Christmas Craft #3: Christmas Ornaments
Cut your fabric placemats out into fun shapes like angels, bell, or even Christmas trees. This is a great project for those stiffer placemats made form more sturdy material.
Now, punch a hole in the top. Use a grommet maker. Now, install the grommet.
Ad a ribbon on top to tie the ornament to the tree.
Hem fabric first if it has a tendency to fray. Simply sew an outline around the edges.
