The first thing to watch out for when looking to start an affiliate marketing business is the companies website. Most legitimate companies will have a professionally built website that does not contain error pages and other difficulties for the web users. Usually a tell tale sign of a scam company will be either a poorly made or non-functional website, or having no website at all, contacting members solely by email. Now, there are always exceptions to this rule of thumb, but in my experience I would look for a more legitimate looking company to work with to ensure that I receive my compensation.
Another thing that you should look into before launching an affiliate marketing campaign with a company is their customer and affiliate support. Does the company have their own affiliate representative? Do they have an affiliate member's only section on their webpage? Is there a dedicated phone line for affiliate support in case of problems? You should find the answers to all of these questions before you decide if you have found the right company for you to market. It will be extremely important for you to be able to contact them in case any issues arise during the time that you are marketing their products.
