It is no surprise that the latest news from Rasmussen Reports shows that the State of Kansas is leaning very heavily toward the Republicans. Back in 2004, President Bush won the state with 62% of the popular vote. When the national leader for the Democrats, New York Senator Hillary Clinton is matched head to head with the leading Republican Candidates the numbers come up like this. Arizona Senator John McCain has a 23% lead over Clinton, 55% to 32%. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has a 13% lead, 49% to 36%, Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney leads by 12%, 47% to 35% and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee leads Clinton by 9%, 47% to 38%.
McCain is the candidate who gets more Republicans and conservatives and he is the only candidate with a definite advantage over Clinton with the independent voters. And when McCain is head to head with Clinton, more Democrats switch to him.
When it comes to the favorability rating, McCain is the leader again with 61%. Giuliani is in second with 57%, Huckabee in third with 50%. Romeny is next with 47% and then comes Clinton with 41%
They gave the Kansas voters a choice of 6 Republican candidates and ask them to pick the one who they thought would do the best job for their state. Again McCain came in first with 22% and Huckabee came in with 16%. They also asked them to pick from 3 of the Democratic candidates and none of the above came in first with 36%. Obama and Edwards each get 18% and Clinton gets 17%.
The opinion of the voters in Kansas regarding the President has changed since he got that 62% in 2004. Right now just 44% of the Kansas voters give him good or excellent marks while 38% say he is doing a poor job.
