Elizabeth Gilbert was a guest on the Oprah show. She wrote the inspirational book called Eat Pray Love after having a spiritual or emotional collapse. According to her mother she has always been the little guru of the family. Elizabeth quipped about her mother's remark. Her mother said that she knows her daughter a lot better since she has had this ephiphany. She was always quiet about her pain and feelings.Elizabeth said that leaving the court after her divorce she was sobbing uncontrollably on the bus and she didn't want to make the travelers anymore miserable than they already were. She doesn't want to be remembered as being miserable. That is not the contribution that she wants to make to the world.
She suggests in her book, Eat Pray Love, that we all have our own little safe prayer and meditation place in our home. She took us through a tour of her home, via the Oprah show. It is a converted church and has collections that she and her husband have from all over the world. This includes a little Goddess sculpture and a boat mast. They heat their home with a wood burner. It is a beautiful artistic home and area.
She said that a soulmate has a whole different meaning to her than it did before. Our society thinks of a soulmate as being a romantic significant other type ideal. She learned that a soulmate is not always a happy positive feeling type connection. A soulmate can also be someone who is here to teach us a lesson that can be painful. It can be more like a spiritual wake-up call.
She also said that God is Perfection Absorbed. We become absorbed by this perfection essence. Oprah's eyes raised on this one. I can see where she is going with this but it is a little too new agey or old agey for me I guess.
After reading her book many women have said they have found God and started praying and meditating. They made drastic changes and did things that they had always wanted to do before reading her book. One woman said she was an atheist, then corrected herself by saying maybe she was just Agnostic, but she is now a changed being.

Eat Pray Love Written by Elizabeth Gilbert
We all need a quiet, safe place to pray and meditate. For me it is often the outdoors and country.
