After Christmas is over, many people's thoughts will turn to the fast approaching New Year. As the New Year approaches, one of the most common facets of the New Year is New Year's resolution. The idea behind New Year's resolutions is to improve things in your life which may need improving, and to le
arn to better accept those things in your life which cannot be changed. Many people make new years resolutions which are difficult to keep, if not sometimes impossible to keep. Here are some suggestions to help you to be able to make, and able to keep, your new years resolution.

One of the most common new years resolutions people make is to stop smoking cigarettes. Though this is one of the most commonly made New Year's resolutions, quitting smoking is also one of the most frequently failed New Year's resolutions. The reason many people fail with this New Year's resolution is because of stress. During the Christmas season, there were probably lots of stresses including shopping, spending money, dealing with irksome quirky relatives and other friends. Even though Christmas is over you probably still have some leftover stress. Many people handle stress by smoking. A good rule of thumb for this classic New Year's resolution is to set a date for quitting smoking and stick to it. As the date for quitting looms closer, get rid of all your smoking materials, and distance yourself from stressful people and stressful situations.

New years resolutions are also an excellent time for evaluating relationships. If you have been contemplating the end of a relationship for quite some time the New Year is the perfect time to do so. Discuss the relationship with your partner. Listen to each other and learn what both of you feel are problems in the relationship. Give things a month or so, and if the situation isn't improved, begin planning your breakup or divorce. The New Year is a time to begin putting your individual needs ahead of the needs of everyone else, what better way to do this than to evaluate and change your relationships.

It's that time of year again :) And a great article indeed. Perhaps this tool we just launched will help you keep your New Year's resolutions as well - www.pledgehammer.com. In short, it asks you donate money to a charity for every resolution you didn't keep. So either way the world will be a little bit better place.

One of my New Year's resolution is to clear out stuff, donate to charity, and not buy as much stuff!
