Commander of Air Force Reserve Command, Air Force Lieutenant General John Bradley did the honors of delivering the supplies when he came to the area. Over 25,000 pounds of supplies were given to the Afghan people thanks to the hard work of the Lieutenant General's wife, Jan.
Provincial Reconstruction Teams, Air Force humanitarian drops, and Operation Care (through Bagram Air Base) will be given the task of handing out the supplies which include clothing, school supplies, and blankets.
"There is a great need out there - an incredible need," Bradley told a group of assembled Airmen here today. "I've seen pictures of little kids here that will bring tears to your eyes. I've seen pictures of them in the snow with no shoes on, wearing lightweight clothes. They are freezing and some of them are dying."
The General also spent some of his time in the area visiting members of the Air Force and talking to them about the good work that they are doing. He thanked them for their service, and then dropped by a town that was located in the area to hand out supplies personally to the families of the town. It is winter there as it is in the U.S., and Afghanistan receives some harsh weather in the winter.
The General mentioned that it would take several weeks to distribute the supplies to the areas most in need and mentioned how proud he was of those that were working here to make Afghanistan a better place.
"Some of what you're going to unload here is going to save some lives," he said. "People argue about policies, but the American people can separate that from Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines who are doing the job. I have never seen it better in my 40 years in the Air Force. They thank you, and I am really proud of you."
In other areas of Afghanistan, Coalition forces killed militants during missions on Sunday while looking for Taliban command operations in the area around Helmand Province.
