Giving a bookmark to an avid reader can be a rather dull choice unless you take great thought about your purchase.
Check your local bookstores, as they will have the best variety that will appeal to someone who probably has a larger than average collection of bookmarks. They will have ten times more bookmarks than discount department stores.
You want something of quality, so nothing paper unless its laminated. A great option would be an handcrafted bookmark, either sewn fabric or crocheted.

Take me for example, I take my reading seriously and don't like bookmarks with pictures on them because they intrude in the scenes in my head as I'm reading; however, as a crazy duck collector, a duck themed bookmark would grant you a big hug on Christmas morning.

Good ideas.
That's a use for one that I never thought of and I'm usually trying to read in the car as the sun is setting.
My sister gave me a book light a few years ago. I didn't think I'd use it much, but it has been great to have. It especially comes in handy when I'm reading in the car (not while I'm driving) and it starts to get dark just when I'm at the good part!
