I can still remember the days when Saccharin was the only alternative to sugar. If you were diabetic, or trying to reduce your sugar intake for any reason, your choices were to forego sweets, or to buy Jell-O, pudding, and other mixes that contained Saccharin.

I don't like the taste of Aspartame any better, but Splenda® tastes so much like real sugar that it's hard to tell them apart. That's why, when I found that Pillsbury had come up with a cake mix that contained 50% less sugar, I just had to try it. Read my "Product Review: Pillsbury Moist Supreme Reduced Sugar Cake Mix" and find out if it's any good or not!

Product Description
I found the Pillsbury Moist Supreme Reduced Sugar Cake Mix in the Devil's Food and in the Classic Yellow flavors. An 18.25 ounce box makes one- 13X9 inch cake, two- eight-inch rounds, a Bundt® cake, or 24 cupcakes- just like a standard cake mix. The directions are even pretty much the same: just add 1-1/4 cups water, 1/2 cup oil and 3 eggs, then beat with a mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Pour the batter into a pan that's been lightly coated with cooking spray or shortening and flour, and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. A 13X9 inch cake takes 31 to 35 minutes to bake. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Price and Availability
I bought the Pillsbury Moist Supreme Reduced Sugar Cake Mix for a buck a box at my local Big Lots. They are also available at some Meijer and Kroger stores. You can also order these products at the Pillsbury Online Store.

This is a public service announcement. I just rated your photo and commented on it. I gave it a five for drool power, the ability to make me yearn for chocolate ;) Yes, folks, photos have their own, separate ratings and comment section here. Check it out. Just as articles do, most photos start out with a rating of three. You can read more about all this in one of my recent articles. So do your part and rate the photos, comment on them and give them their proper due. Or don't. I try to but sometimes it is hard to keep up with the articles. Still, if you see a photo that strikes your fancy, why not let it know it?

Sounds good! I'm always skeptical with low sugar mixes because I never know what they will taste like. I'll give this one a try!

As long as they left in ALL the chocolate, I"m fine with it :)

I've used Pillsbury Plus cake mixes for the cakes I've baked for the public for many years, but I didn't even know they made the low sugar kind. I don't usually like artificially sweetened things, except I still like the pink stuff (Sweet 'n Low or generic equivalent) in my iced tea. But if you think this product is good, I'll sure give it a try. Thanks for trying it for me!
