Peak Organic Brewing & Manhattan Beer Distributors Bring Organic Beer to NY
Peak Organic Brewing, makers of hand-crafted, certified organic ales in Portland, ME, announced its decision to partner with New York City's Manhattan Beer Distributors, an area-wide beer distribution company that employs environmentally-friendly delivery techniques.
"This is an opportunity for folks in metro New York to celebrate with a delicious, sustainable toast," said Jon Cadoux, the passionate
United States of Americacraft beer brewer who founded Peak Organic Brewing.
Cadoux acknowledged the problem of an industry-wide lack of environmentally-friendly distribution methods. He made clear the pride he takes in the companies that are working to reduce harm to the environment in their practices, noting the attention that his own company has put into that effort in its decision to work with Manhattan Beer Distributors.
Through state grants totaling more than $1 million, Manhattan Beer Distributors has been able to upgrade ten percent of its 300 delivery trucks to run on compressed natural gas (CNG), with sustainable systems also built in at its Brooklyn, NY refueling station. The entire area of coverage includes the five boroughs of New York City, all of Long Island and seven counties north of New York City.
Said Mike McCarthy, Sr. VP of Operations for Manhattan Beer Distributors, "Our retrofitted trucks have the same performance and fuel economy as our other trucks, but none of the harmful diesel emissions."
McCarthy went on to note that the combined emissions reduction from Manhattan Beer's 30 CNG trucks is estimated to lower vehicle pollution in NY by 227 tons, eliminate a need for 700 oil changes, 601,423 gallons of diesel fuel, and decrease engine noise by 90 percent.
After realizing that it was the organic ingredients in their beers that was responsible for its popularity, Peak's mission statement from then on became inextricably intertwined with a passion for the environment.
"People are realizing that they can enjoy a superb craft beer made with organic ingredients, while supporting a cleaner environment. It's really a win-win," said Cadoux.
