We all know that games are supposed to be fun and recreation. That something we might do to relax from the pressures of life, school, family and work.

For some people, they become everything. There is no life, school, family or work. There is only game, and the sleep necessary to wake up and play the game again.

The Internet is addictive, I will confirm that. I had many late nights playing games, chatting with people, and reading whatever was offered up. However, I had a job that did require my presence, in both body and mind. I needed that job to pay for the home I lived in, and for the college classes I was taking.

But I made time for my Internet, even if it meant a little lost sleep. It was just plain fun to play some games and talk with people all over the world!

I was lucky. I still graduated college with highest honors. I still have my house, despite the poor economy. But I still have my Internet too, and at times I find its siren call too much to resist!

My extended family is the picture of bad scenarios. A mother who wants to make things right for her sons. Sons who will leech every last drop of her kindness.

Her sons include a bipolar man who has had a sketchy work history.

A former Navy man who has left a good job with health benefits to deliver pizzas. But that also proved too stressful.

Now he is unemployed, and letting his mother pay all of his bills, including his car payment, auto insurance, and the payments on his one thousand dollar computer he bought moments before losing his last job.

Her oldest son? Well, he works one and a half jobs to make sure his family is taken care of. And that is the man that I married.

We watch, pained, as she works six days a week as a waitress to support the family that long should have learned to take care of it self at least 15 years ago,

They play World of Warcraft, or something to that effect, all night long. It used to be Joint Ops, Either way, they spend as much time playing these games as one would at a full time job.

Takeaways
  • gaming is a lot like war
