Women and the Art of Cutting Each Other Down
Looking for a way to entertain the boys? Nothing seems to make their day more than a good old fashioned cat fight. What with all the scratching, clawing and pulling of hair who could ask for a better day? Sorry boys, I can. Why is it that when there are two or more girls drama always seems to surface and by surface I don't mean simmer on the back burner. No, I mean a full blown boil which is about to boil over if someone does not turn down the heat.
Girls are notorious for this and the more there are in one place the messier the situation gets. The really scary part is it does not seem to dissipate with age it just takes on different forms. This streak in women that pushes us to fight with each other is one that is not easily harnessed. But is there a real reason why women cannot get along?
Of course women get along. We all have friends, even best friends. But we all have our enemies as well and we're not shy about it. We make it very clear to the rest of the world who we have a problem with and why we're unhappy until everyone knows or has come over to our side. Being a girl is very much about picking sides.
So can you be female and suppress this instinct or it something primal that we just cannot mess with? If we worked on it would it go away or are we forever destined to be the catty women that we are? I know we can put our claws away and play nice. Maybe the work is not in what we can do, but what we want to do.
I have a pretty good hunch that this cattiness is a primal instinct. Something that was born into us and all the women that came before us. Millions of years ago it may have been useful. Prehistoric woman may have literally had to claw another woman when she tried to take over her cave, her food, her man, that last one sounded just a little too familiar. I guess some things never change.
See women have probably been playing out this role for millions of years. There are just some things that we are born with and some things we cannot deny no matter how hard we try. We would be kidding ourselves if we said that this was a new found phenomenon. One thing is for certain we're all in good company, even if we cannot stand each other.
