I find most of the people ranting about the Annie's Homegrown Gluten Free Rice Pasta & Cheddar and to be honest this is not that bad. I think these people who are disappointed with this GF pasta and cheddar are comparing it with the regular Mac & Cheese. This is the biggest mistake and there is no way GF food can come close to the regular wheat pasta in terms of taste, texture or aroma.

Most of use is not aware of the fact that it is the gluten that gives the pasta or any food for that matter, a smooth polished look and even texture. Any GF will have a rough surface and this is understandable. It is because of this reason that the Annie's GF Rice Past & Cheddar has a coarse texture. However it is not that rough and it melts down effortlessly.

Another thing is that this is made of rice and not wheat. Hence there is definitely a total shift in taste. Remember that this is meant for those who do not have the luxury to eat food with gluten or wheat. This is a special diet exclusively made for the celiac patients who cannot tolerate gluten.

This is not that weird and in a way is the best answer to the craving for rice pasta &cheddar instead of suppressing the longing. A good quality well processed cheddar cheese adds authentic pasta taste to it. If the taste of the pasta is bothering you, then try other brown rice pasta with this cheese sauce packs.

It is really funny to note people comparing the Kraft Mac & Cheese with the GF Rice Pasta &cheddar. I do not follow the instructions given at the back of the pack and probably this could be the reason why I find it OK. Boil and keep the pasta aside as told be them. But then before draining the pasta, make sure that it is properly done because rice pasta takes more time than the wheat to get cooked.

Then take a pan and melt a spoon of butter followed by a cup of freshly scrapped cheddar cheese. Add the cheese sauce packet that comes along with the pasta and pour milk to boil. Make it a really thick creamy sauce and this will definitely add a twist to the otherwise gritty pasta. Once this smooth sauce coats the coarse pasta, you will no longer feel the grittiness. You can also add crushed pepper to make it interesting.
