When I watch TV or see a movie, I'm even more interested in seeing it if it features one of my favorite actresses. Even we heterosexual women can appreciate the beauty in others, and can see the magnetism that some actresses have and some don't. Here are my top five in order of magnetism and downright sex appeal.

5. Katie Holmes - Now all grown up from her beginnings on Dawson's Creek, Katie Holmes has gone from girl next door to woman of intrigue and mystery. Beautiful, tall, leggy and smart, she's an actress who appeals to both men and women. To me, she's even more mysterious because she's hooked up with Tom Cruise. A partnership that everyone not involved in it can already see it will end in disaster. Ms. Holmes however will be the one who ultimately comes out of that relationship better off. Mr. Cruise is likely to see his already kooky image be damaged even more.

4.Scarlett Johansson - Another startlingly beautiful young woman who started off her career in quirky, independent movies, she's metamorphosized into a gorgeous woman with lustrous skin and a killer personality. Smarter than her young years would suggest, she's got it all - unbelievable acting ability, smarts, looks and a body. Voted #1 on many 'World's Most Beautiful Women' lists, she'll be around for years to come.

3.Natalie Portman - The first movie I remember seeing her in was "Beautiful Girls, where she played the child-woman, Marty. With an unbelievable performance, she stood out on the screen miles above any of the seasoned actors on there. In only a couple of years, she became part of Hollywood history with her portrayal of Queen Padmé Amidala on Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace, and from that moment on her future in movies was assured. Ms. Portman has incredibly beautiful skin, a perfect body and more charisma than almost anyone else on screen. Check out 'Closer' for an amazing performance of a child-woman trying to be something she's not - in this movie you'll see child, woman, ingénue, and sage - all facets of a personality from the same actress.

Takeaways
  • Angelina Jolie is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations
  • Audrey Tatou still insists on making mostly independent foreign movies.
  • Katie Holmes will come out far ahead of Tom Cruise when they eventually divorce.

I agree on all counts and submit Cate Blanchette, the amazingly versatile Aussie actress, to this sizzling company! ;o)

Very good picks! I love Angelina. I think I own most of her movies.

You're on the money Fable. Personally, I've always wondered about the men who found the "ManGurl" attractive. A woman should be curvy, and if 20 extra ponds is the prereq, then so be it. I've snapped waaaaay too many of them skinny gurls clean in half, and all I was doin' was luvin' 'em up a little. Gimme a gal with "baby making hips" anytime. Now THAT'S A WOMAN!!!

I agree that beauty involves intelligence too. But I'm not so keen on Angelina Jolie. Sophie

Oh and Jim, I've seen Michelle Pfeiffer at my favorite Mexican restaurant in LA with her husband and kids and she is unbelievably gorgeous - the most luminescent skin you've ever seen and the nicest person ever. When I saw her she was also driving a low-key small car, not one of those humonguous SUVs popular in Hollywood - very cool woman.

Kelly I loved 'Pieces of April' and 'Wonder Boys' - she has this amazing naive and touching quality about her, but at the same time is tough and tomboyish. Love that! Not everybody does though (sorry Beth :-) Jim, I don't get the Jennifer Love Hewitt is fat thing. I mean come on, I don't know a single guy who wants to have sex with a girl who's the size of a pencil?? Why are these skinny skinny women in fashion?

At first I puzzled over your choice of Katie Holmes, but thinking about "Pieces of April" and "Wonder Boys" made me think you may be right she has something special. Audrey Tatou is great, bit I think Juliette Binoche is remarkable (Chocolat, Breaking and Entering, Dan in Real Life). I also love Parker Posey and Catherine Keener in virtually every movie they've ever been in...

Scarlett Johansson is way hot; if Jennifer Love Hewitt is fat, I want more of that. When it comes to hotties, Dana Delany and Elisabeth Shue rank right up there too. Possibly the most beautiful of all were the 30ish Liz Taylor and Merle Oberon. And I used to know a girl named Debbie Messner who looked so much like Michelle Pfeiffer that the first time I saw Michelle Pfeiffer on screen I was sure my old friend Debbie had become a star. It was a good 2 years or so before I was convinced that Michelle and Debbie weren't the same person.

Katie Holmes bothers me immensely. Not sure if I agree with any of the list, but it was a good read. ;)
