When you go on vacation, to a ballpark, the movies, or to an amusement park, you may not think twice about paying $5 or more for a hotdog or even for a soda or beer. However, would you pay over $5 for those things at your grocer or corner convenient store? No way. For some reason, in our minds, our money becomes as insignificant as Monopoly money! So, when it comes to planning an important event such as a wedding, it is not unusual for even the most savvy consumer to overlook expenses due to their emotional involvement.

When a budget amount is set for wedding expenses, it's quite easy to spend more than usual for necessary and/or optional services. When I got engaged, I chose to wait at least a year before the wedding. My fiancé said that was okay with him, too. We ended up setting a date for 13 months later. Not only did I feel it was important to the health of our future marriage, but to enjoy the time together just being engaged. I also knew it would give me ample time to plan for the big event without the extra stress of an untimely deadline.

We didn't have much money, as we were mostly paying for the wedding ourselves. I figured I could utilize my creative talents to my advantage. However, just because I'm the creative type doesn't mean that anyone who isn't can't create their own novelties, too. Asking for help from friends and family members helps, too. Believe it or not, many are flattered and willing to help out and want to be a part of the event planning.

From many quotes I received for flower arrangements, center pieces, photography, wedding programs, video services, etc., I decided to put my thinking cap on and create my own. Keeping in mind that many couples decide to have some sort of theme for their special day, one should take the theme idea and go from there. The best way to go about this is to do a keyword search online or even just look up the theme keywords in a thesaurus for ideas.

Very helpful, especially pointing out that a long engagement is not only fun, it allows you to do all this yourself and save a bundle! Silks are the best flowers for a wedding-beautiful and economical. 24 years later I still have mine-a bit bedraggled, but still there.
