Jackson Square New Year's Eve Celebration: A Preview
Celebrate New Year's Eve in the French Quarter of New Orleans
If your New Year's Eve plans take you near New Orleans this year, you might want to take in the midnight New Year's festivities in the French Quarter. At the heart of the French Quarter is Jackson Square. Named after President Andrew Jackson, a statue of him on horseback stands in the square. This part of New Orleans takes you back to the mid 1800s, when most of the buildings were originally constructed. Horse and mule drawn carriages abound in this part of town for the tourist trade. Horse drawn wedding carriages are a common site. Noted for it's mild climate local artists abound showing off their works in the square itself. Many artists have set up permanent open air stores in the square. Manicured lawns, bushes and flower beds add to the charm of the area. Surrounding Jackson Square is a wide range of restaurants for everyone's taste buds. There is a local flavor to be savored in the museums and old buildings too. Many of the old buildings and hotels in the area are reputed to be haunted and there are tours of them if your want to add another aspect to your New Year's eve itinerary. The French Quarter's buildings survived Hurricane Katrina with minimal damage because it is on higher ground than the rest of New Orleans and the whole area is thriving today.

Add to that the traditional jazz music that New Orleans is noted for and you'll have a New Year's eve you will not soon forget. The celebration is set to begin at 9pm on December 31, 2007.
