Will "The Golden Compass" Lead Your Children Astray?

"The Golden Compass", starring Nicole Kidman, has the Christian community up in arms yet again. Like the "Harry Potter" films, the movie has Christian groups fearing for the souls of their children.

The movie is based on the first book of the award-winning "His Dark Materials" trilogy written by British author Philip Pullman, "The Northern Lights", and is about a young girl's journey to stop the Magisterium (which represents the Catholic church) from conducting experiments on children. She meets many magical creatures on the way, and the stories have many of the fantasy elements of other popular novel series that children have enjoyed throughout the years, such as "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "The Lord of the Rings." They can be viewed as the usual "good vs. evil" epic tales, or, if you are devoutly Christian, they can be viewed as extremely offensive, dangerous materials.
