19 Captured, 3 Killed During Missions to Break Up Terrorist Networks Near the Tigris River

According to Multi National Forces-Iraq, 19 individuals were captured and three were killed during missions to break up al Qaeda networks near the Tigris River.

One wanted suspect was detained by Coalition forces during a mission north of al Khalis. The mission was meant to find those connected to a terrorist network north of Baghdad. The suspect is thought to be associated with a car bombing group within the network and personally responsible for some attacks. When the military came to the area in question, one individual came out from a building armed and moved away from the target location. Thinking that there was danger, the individual was fired upon and killed. Five other suspects were captured during the mission and will be held for further questioning.

In a mission near Yusufiyah, a wanted suspect was detained that is thought to be connected to a terrorist operation in Baghdad and is believed to be one who planned an attack on military forces in the area. He is stated as being associated with foreign terrorists and senior members of al Qaeda that work in the area around Arab Jabour. During the mission the suspect let military forces know who he was and was detained. One other individual was captured during the mission.

A mission involving the hunting of an al Qaeda in Iraq leader working out of Hawija was conducted near Mosul by Coalition forces. It is stated that the suspect is in charge of several terrorists which operate by his command in killing individuals with Iraqi Security forces. The building was approached by Coalition forces when an individual attacked with a knife in hand. The man was killed by military forces in self defense. Another individual was found with a blanket around him and wires coming from inside the blanket. Again acting in self defense the military engaged and the individual was killed. Six other people were held at the scene and will be questioned further.

Captured north of Bayji were five terrorists during a Coalition mission seeking out an al Qaeda in Iraq member connected with foreign terrorist organization as well as shipping weapons.
