During the winter holidays, more homes are burning potpourri than any other time of the year. Winter scents like cinnamon and berry or wintergreen magically fill the air and add ambiance to any home. But besides burning potpourri this holiday season, how about creating homemade potpourri gifts for everyone on your list? Following are some ideas for you:
Potpourri in Your home
Colorful potpourri in glass mugs, pitchers and glass canisters can add a little pizzazz to any room. Remove corks and tops, fill up the glass container and decorate each room with matching colors. Consider such ideas for gifts. You can also fill wicker baskets with your favorite potpourri during the holiday season. Not only will the scent fill the air, but the colors and beauty will also add a special touch to every room in the house.
Spice Ropes: Potpourri You Hang
Kitchen spice ropes or braids help absorb kitchen odors. Spice ropes are attractive, have a great fragrance and add a beautiful touch to the kitchen or dining room.
How to make a spice rope
Any strip of fabric, yarn, jute or robe will work. Begin braiding it. Add pouches of your favorite scents (citrus, herbs, nutmeg, etc.) tie them with ribbons in between each braid...Add cinnamon sticks, tie them and etc.
Scented Sachets: Potpourri with Style
Lace and scented sachets are romantic, attractive and can be as intricate as you choose. Cut two identical pieces of fabric into a heart shape. Fill them with your favorite scents like lavender, rose petals and stuffing with herbs and drops of aromatherapy oils. Sew them up and put them in a pretty Christmas gift box for a family member or friend.
Wind chimes made of cinnamon sticks: Potpourri with Taste
Who doesn't love the smell of cinnamon? By taking several cinnamon sticks and hanging them carefully together with craft wire, you can have a deliciously scented wind chime to put over a kitchen window to catch the sun coming through the glass...instantly the smell of cinnamon will fill the air. This makes an excellent gift as well.
