Seriously though, this is a listing of my favorite films of this year. They may not have made the Top Ten of budget, popularity, or A-list stars, but I enjoyed them just the same. If you've never seen any of these films, I highly recommend you do. Then again if you can kill a night watching, "The Marine," and feel justified, you may not be part of the "target audience" for this article.
In no certain order:
1. "Sicko." Directed by Michael Moore. REASON FOR MAKING THE LIST: I've been a fan of Michael Moore from the moment I watched, "TV Nation." While this may not be his best film, it's better than, "Fahrenheit 9/11," and almost as good as, "Bowling For Columbine," but more important. While there are those who hate him, and some of his methods have come into question, one has to ask themselves about the topic he's discussing: American healthcare. Whether you love him or hate him, are a Republican, Democrat, or other, you need to see this film; it's that important.
2. "Gone Baby Gone." Starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Ed Harris, and Morgan Freeman. Directed by Ben Affleck. REASON FOR MAKING THE LIST: I'm a fan of neo-noir ("Brick," "Memento," "L.A. Confidential") and this film fits nicely into that genre. A great story and impressive performances... Well done, Ben.
Did You Know?
I paid to see each one of these films.
