Review: Hot + Cold Mini Fridge by Sharper Image

The concept of Hot +Cold Fridge was quite fascinating and I went for the Sharper Image just for the heck of it. This is a very small sized and compact mini fridge that can be utilized at the best for personal use. This basically functions on Peltier effect and the same unit is electronically operated that reverses the cycle depending on the requirement. This comes with a switch at its back with option for cold and hot operation and all you have to do is to just press it. After two months of use this button came out and I had to fix it.

When I say it keeps things cold do not expect it to store things at extremely freezing temperature like the regular refrigerator. This comes in no way close to that. At the max this can keep beverages, soft drinks and small packets of snacks cool and ready to use form. This has a handle at the top and makes it portable. This is good to carry along with short trips and camp fire. I have placed it in my bedroom and use it mainly for holding chilled water and chocolates. Before going to bed I take the bottle from the refrigerator and put inside the Mini fridge so that I don't have to go out of my room to fetch cold water by the night.

This cannot be used for storing fruits, vegetables, cheese and other cooked items like conventional refrigerator because they get spoiled because of the very low temperature. The cooling temperature directly depends on the volume of the items store inside the mini fridge. The more you fill inside the more chill the fridge becomes. It keeps the food items relatively warm though not steaming hot like a crock-pot. My mother feels that this is a toy fridge because this is not strongly built and I always have some kind of problem with it. In my opinion this is worth $100 and given a chance I would not buy this again.
