Do the British or the Americans show better manners? I would like to discuss "English" politeness in the context of the British vs the Americans. By "Americans" I imply the USA and possibly Canada.

It was Mr Blair who said prior to the 2003 Invasion of Iraq that "by nature" the British were a "peaceful people". He was probably wrong. A famous Kabbalist teacher I had the privilege of knowing has said (in his book - Wielding Power) "It has been said that the Anglo-Saxon race keep a tight rein on their emotions because they are a violent people and the violence lurks just below the surface" - this is why they need "manners" to oil the frictions in potentially violent human interactions - "Any highly structured society has warring elements that interact in specific ways to maintain the greater whole". Venerable Bhikku Nanamoli, a prolific scholar and English Buddhist monk stated: "Civilisation is the art of living in contact with other persons with the minimum of discomfort" (1945 - A Thinker's notebook - published posthumously. Simply take a look at the UK legal system which has been adopted in the US. You have two advocates fighting it out between themselves and the one to convince the judge or jury in the debate wins. Consider also the UK Parliament, two (OK 3) parties, the ruling one against the principal opposition - in constant war for the electorate - now popularly replicated in many forms the world over. Adversarial statesmanship and law is the norm in the UK and she has handed it over to the USA. Not everyone in the world operates in quite this way.

Reads like this was hashed out - is there a way to shorten this and outline the specifics you want to present with the article?

I find the opposite. I'm British and lived in the US for 20 years. Americans are friendly but a lot of it is fake and out of their country they are quite aggressive. I teach in Thailand and some schools now will not hire Americans here because they are rude and aggressive and complain all the time about things being better in America.
