A local man in Flint, Michigan was being chased by police Tuesday night in a vehicle he had stolen from a used car lot on Dort Highway. The man had been seen sneaking into the lot where he then highjacked a 2002 Ford Explorer. After a local resident called the police reporting the incident, they arrived just as the man was about to take off in a new vehicle.

The chase began around 7:30 and only lasted about a half hour before the Explorer disappeared. Twisting and turning through various neighborhoods and expressways, the man thought he could outrun the Michigan state police. He thought wrong.

Though the local resident did not catch any information such as a license plate number or description of the beat up car that escorted the man into the parking lot, security cameras did however catch that piece of information that would lead to two arrests.

Robert Jones of Flint, Michigan was arrested this morning on several charges. After the license plate was caught on camera, police visited Jones house where he was arrested on the spot for stolen property, breaking and entering, and avoiding a police officer in a chase that could have caused injuries to those caught in the path. After being questioned, Jones then gave the identity of the other party involved in the autotheft.

Jones had been advised to give up the identity of his accomplice or face several more charges in court including withholding of evidence.

Jamal Canton, 38, is also a resident of Flint, Michigan. A convicted criminal numerous times over, Canton can be expected to face up to ten years in state prison for other crimes he's been on the run from on top of the new crime commited Tuesday night.

"He's been convicted in the past of selling drugs, he's out there writing thousands of dollars in bad checks. He's been on the run for some time and we haven't been able to catch up with him," says Officer Storm, the police officer who made the arrests today.

"This doesn't happen very often where our case is easily solved as it was today. At times, these things can take days, even weeks to follow up on. But thanks to some good security cameras, we were able to make our arrest."
