Philip Pullman, an atheist who masks his message in fiction children's books, has been called "the most dangerous author in Britiain." And it could be easily seen to be so as he was quoted in a newspaper article to say, "'Thou shalt not' might reach the head, but 'once upon a time' reaches the heart. I agree with Pullman in that respect. If a person's heart does not line up with his head, he will not have a genuine change. So just like Jesus used parables to tell a story and prepare the hearts of the people, it is a good idea to soften the ground before depositing the seed. No problem there. But the message that Pullman is sending is counter-productive to the typical parent child-rearing.

Philip Pullman penned the books called, His Dark Materials, a trilogy of which the movie The Golden Compass is based. I'm sure by now, that you know of the anti-church, anti-God, and anti-organized religion message of the books, so I won't bore you any longer with that. I do believe that parents who are raising their children in the nuture and admonition of the Lord should know that about the movie, but the movie also has a very anti-authority message, which can get into the heads of young children, or really stand out for the precocious fourteen and fifteen year olds whose attention the Harry Potter series failed to keep.

Nikki, I'm with you! It is pure evil incarnate and it has been keenly written so that it appears as otherwise. That is how satan gets his followers, he paints the pretty pictures they want to see and once they've been captivated, it is all over...they've been had. He is the biggest deciever that ever walked the earth, I suppose that is why he has so many followers. He's good at sucking in the non-believers I'll tell you that much. To NOT believe in God IS to believe in satan. By the way, there is a fine line between "sheltering your children" from other's beliefs and actually taking them into the world of the other beliefs and letting them fill thier minds with that stuff. The mind is like a recorder and it never gets rid of anything...it's all in the backup and when you take your kids to see crap, they will get crap out of it...

I went and saw the movie with my children today. I wrote a review for Review Stream tonight. Look for it over there. There are many media venues that are anti-authority. I battle the decisions of which cartoons are okay for my kids to watch! However I also believe that it is dangerous to shelter your children from the beliefs of others and that it is important to discuss your beliefs AND the beliefs of others. For someday they will make their own choices. I liked your article, it is obviously something you are very passionate about, and with the articles I have found all over the internet regarding this movie and the trilogy that it was created from, there are many that are passionate about it! Great writing!

I think it's great, the movie is destined to be the hit of the season thanks to reactions from closed-minded dogma believers. Anything that brings children to question the mind-numbing dead hole that is religion is fine by me. Gonna see the film today, look for my review!

We will not be watching this movie in our household. I turn the TV to a different channel when one of the movie promos comes on. It's pure evil in my opinion.
