Everyone loves the delicious foods that are served during the holidays, and they'll be mighty impressed with yours, but only you will know how little it all cost. Some holiday sweets are expensive to make or buy, but the ones listed here are cheap yet delicious.
Make a chocolate cake but pour it into two rectangular pans instead of one. The cake won't rise quite as high but that's what you want for this chocolate goody. Cut the cakes into squares and set on wax paper. Drizzle chocolate syrup over them and set on a tray. You can add coconut, cherries or candy sprinkles to give the cakes a bit of color. This delicious treat costs under three bucks and makes many. The cake can actually be any flavor you want but who doesn't love chocolate?
Speaking of cakes did you know you can make deli-type cakes yourself? One delicious type of cake, that's really cheap and easy, is made from juice, Kool-Aid, or other liquids. Instead of using water as instructed for the cake mix, stir in juice or another flavored liquid, then make the cake as directed. Ordinary white or yellow cake mixes become pineapple cakes, apple cakes, or even strawberry cakes. Top with the frosting of your choice or place a square on a cupcake paper, then drizzle with flavored syrup.
A colorful and delicious cake you can easily make requires the baking of the cake, as usual, then allow to cool. Mix up any flavor of gelatin, poke holes in the cake with the end of a wooden spoon, then pour the gelatin mix over the top of the cake. The gelatin will run into the holes, and when you cut the cake, it's bright and festive. The gelatin gives a unique, fruity flavor to any white or yellow cake.
