We all have grown up watching Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons. We've all fallen in love with the loveable Tweety Bird, or the popular mouse, Mickey. Everyone knows and loves them for what they are, funny cartoons for kids of all ages. However, an Italian court thinks that these cartoons, when summoned will pop out of the television screen, or jump off of the drawing pad. A Chinese man has been accused of counterfeiting products from Disney and Warner Brothers ... so a court in Naples has summoned our loveable characters to appear to testify in the trial. Does anyone else see a problem with this?
Apparently the court cited the names of the characters instead of their companies and or their legal representatives. But this is my concern... this situation actually is almost scary. Now don't get me wrong, I know that these great companies strive for realism, but for an employee of the court to actually sit down and type these character names on a summons and not even think twice to what she was doing or even stop and ask someone, "umm, is this real?" or "How is this going to work?" is beyond me.
Another question is, after this summon was typed up, how many people did it have to process through and why didn't they realize the absurd possibility and get it corrected. Everyone knows that these cartoon characters will fail to appear and anytime someone fails to show up in court, they can be prosecuted...yeah... and how would that happened anyway? Tweety is going to be put under bird-cage arrest?
The funny fact of the matter is that these characters are being called to court because they are said to be damaged parties in the trial.
Evidently the summons is going to have to be rewritten, Titti, Paperino, Paperina, and Topolino; the Italian names for the cited Tweety Bird, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Daisy... won't be able to make the court hearing due to their busy cartoon lives as they entertain the world.
