HTN (more commonly known as hypertension or high blood pressure) is a condition that causes the deaths of more than 50,000 Americans a year. Approximately 65 million American adults (i.e. about one in three) are affected by this condition.

HTN is known as a "silent killer" as it is known to have led to other health problems and most of the time there are hardly any symptom to alert the sufferer.

Serious health risks that include heart failure, blindness, stroke, kidney problems are known to be aggravated by HTN. For instance, the risk of a heart failure is increased by six times because of the stress put on the body by hypertension. A person who has high blood pressure faces a higher risk of having a heart problem or a stroke (three times and seven times respectively).

With virtually no noticeable symptoms of a HTN sufferer, it is thought that one in three people who have high blood pressure are not aware of the damaging situation that is occurring inside themselves.

Yet, clinical research trials have suggested that there has been a corresponding reduction in fatality from heart failure, stroke and other coronary diseases when the high blood pressure is reduced through remedial actions. Controlling HTN had also brought about a slow down in kidney diseases.

As such, you should endeavour to have your blood pressure checked regularly. By doing this, you will be aware of a HTN condition, should there be one. It is very important to practise proactive blood pressure monitoring routines so that measures can be taken to control the situation before serious health conditions develop and this must be maintained to ensure that the correct hypertension treatment is being received.

When it comes to hypertension treatment, some of the commonly prescribed treatments by doctors include beta blockers, alpha blockers and other pharmaceutical blood pressure "cures".

When taking such HTN medication, it is not uncommon for side effects to develop and the cost of this common hypertension treatment approach can be expensive (hundreds to thousands of dollars) with no guarantee that the condition is controlled or reduced in the long term.
