Coaching your child to do well in standardized tests is quite a like for any other tests he will have to face. He will need to study! You can help him to learn better by asking him questions about the subject matter. Make him answer with complete sentences, not just few words, this will help him to memorize better.

You can print some practice tests on line and have your child complete them in certain time to teach him time management.

Get your child interested in many areas, read newspaper with him and discuss about the daily news. Do every day practices by letting your kid calculate the bill or figure out how much money he will need to buy some things.

Tell him to skip the hard questions and do the easy ones first and then return to think about the questions he is not so sure about. This will safe him time completing the paper.

Get involved with your teacher and ask when these tests are taken if you do not get the notice at home. I know I usually do, my children are still in the elementary school.

Make sure to have your child well rested before the test and give him a good breakfast.

Do not pressure him to do well or make these tests overly important matter, that will only stress your child and he can get nervous and anxious and do worse!

Standardized tests have been discussed about in our school system and how unfair it is to ask the exact same questions from everyone in every school. Nevertheless they are the only way to compare the education given in different schools. If the test scores in your child's school are way below normal you should take a hard look about the school and the teachers! You do not want your child to fall in to be another miserable statistic.
