Building your own home is no walk in the park, and it is not for the faint of heart. Of course you won't be on the site slinging buckets of mortar or stringing up the foundation - none of that physical stuff. But you will be supervising the contractor(s) who will be consulting with you regularly t
o ensure that your needs as specified are being met; taking time out of your busy day to drop in on the workmen at the site; and just generally ensuring that things are off to a great start.

And if you wish to cut out the general contractor (head man) and do the purchasing and coordinating yourself, therein lies the source of your first major heart attack. This is hard work, especially if you have a full time job. Couple this with unreliable workmen and you can just forget the entire project.

Personally, I have always felt that when one is ready to own their own home, they should just go find one that is all ready to be occupied, purchase it, move your own stuff in and go straight to bed. If it comes already furnished and only requires my presence, this makes it all the much sweeter.

Seriously, building your dream home from the ground up could easily turn into a nightmare if you do not remain one step ahead of any potential disaster.

So now that you have the foundation, the sides, roof, electrical and plumbing needs in place, let's spend a little time talking about fixtures, fittings and accessories.

Who knew that there were so many varieties, colors and sizes of tiles for inside and outside use. Couldn't they just make it in one size and color, and you pretty much use it where you want to! No, they gave you choices, and a monster size headache to go along with it.
