Lately listening to the conversations of peers my age all they have to talk about is the site my space. Me myself I have to admit that I've been tempted to join too. It seems to be a lot of fun, you post pictures of you your friends and family. You can also listen to music and chat. It's all free, and yes created with the purpose for you to have a good time, but are there dangers?

Mostly young people, ranging from ages 12 and up have been using this website. Although it's all well and good myspace is not a good website for people those ages. I recently read in the Time magazine of a young girl who hooked up with a nineteen year old boy posing to be a senior in highschool. She went to meet him, they had intercourse and now the girl is suing my space for damage. Then their's the experience of a sixteen yearold girl who met a man through my space and went to meet him in a foreign country. Ever since her parents or police haven't been able to find her. Youths are chatting with people who they don't know and never seen, which poses a danger. These strangers who pretend to be something their not are sick people who have the ability to lure these young people into grave suitations.

So what do we do? Do we sit around and let this happen or do we take actions to do something about it? I say we find ways to prevent this.

I think my space should have a age limit to who can join. Eighteen and up. The website should only be limited to mature adults who are able to make wise desicions for themselves. Don't you think. But of course if this is done, there won't be much business for my space. But at least our youths will be safe.

Or my space can have some kind of protection to prevent teens from chatting. Until this is done I suggest that parents watch their children closely while they are using the internet. Place the computer in a public room in your house. Like the livingroom, but in any case children should not have access to the internet in their rooms.

In conclusion all I have to say is that my space is not always a healthy site for a child. So let's take some action!

Takeaways
  • Teen deaths have resulted from my space
  • How you can protect your children

i think teens should be able to be mature to handle myspace. i mean 18 years old wth? i mean like any other site there is some danger. but the chances of those cases happening is like 1 out of every 10,00 i mean we teenages cannot be sheltered our whole lives we have to learn how to deal with problems and protect our selfs if we even want to last a minute out in the world so don't even say that that is the stupidest idea i have ever heard plus this is the only way we can talk to our long distance buddys.

I think that as long as you don't add anyone you do not know, it should work just fine. I mean, really, if the stupid teenagers are blocked from myspace, then at least 80% of its users will be banned, myspace will fail, and everyone will just move somewhere else. It's pretty much human nature, that if something is blocked, we find a way around it or forge a new path.

first of call its, myspace, and second - myspace is not the problem. its the people on it. i have a myspace, and i love it. i don't add people i don't know, and don't post inappropriete things. its the girls's [ child's ] fault for meeting strangers. they should know better. you can't blame the site for their stupid mistakes. and of course people are going to lie about their age on here. im only fourteen - but i know when people are fake and therefore only add my friends from school and stuff.

i think its the kids decision. i for one love my myspace and i add people i may not know. i find its a cool way to meet people from other places. but i am safe about it. i dont share my location or last name. and if i find someone who is close to my area or will be i meet them. but i meet them with a group of friends by my side. never alone.

If teenagers didn't use MySpace it would more than likely fail. The real problem is a bunch of girls too stupid to realize that she shouldn't give out their personal information on MySpace no matter how sure they are that teh other pserson is who they claim to be. Not only on MySpace, but the internet in general. If they don't tell people all these personal things such as phone number, address etc., then there wouldn't be a problem. MySpace already demands that you be 14 and older but 12 year olds just lie about their age. Some people just need to smarten up is all, seeing as most teens are a lot less intelligent than they should be for their age.

Yeah I can understand where you are coming from! but Kids that want on that site will lie about their age. Even if there not 18 they will find a way to get on there and say their 18, and could still only be like 14. But there are some kids that dont think about it and just oh theres this older guy talking to me, I think he likes me. They love that attention! So they will find a way to get on the site! They just need to limit it to how much infomation they can put on their site. I think Myspace should be kept just it needs some limits on there!

I opened a new account earlier this year but never had the time to use it. Today i received a request from someone wanting to join "my friends." Out of curiosity I went back through my emails and retrieved the original account information and password initially forwarded to me after opening the account. Lo and behold the password worked and there before my eyes was a page containing pornographic photos and videos and material i personally would never want to be associated with. It was still under my name with my current email address. I have been a journalist and documentary filmmaker for over 20 years and have been the target of malicious personal attacks because of my political stance in questioning US foreign policy. Anyone who saw this MySpace page in my name would have associated it with my person and reputation which I find frightening. Again, access to this page was only possible by using the original password that was sent directly from MYSpace.com. Needless to say, I

kids should be able to use myspace if they're not stupid enough to talk to people they dont know... and if u had to be 18 kids would just lie when they sign up..
