The career of Michael Vick has come crumbling down as his fame as the electrifying quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons had come crashing to a halt. Vick had signed a 7 year deal with the Falcons worth more than $100 million, the most ever for an NFL player at the time.
In August Vick pleaded not guilty in his sentencing, admitting that he bankrolled dog fighting on his own property in a dog fighting operation known as "Bad Newz Kennels." 6 to 8 dogs were killed in the dog fighting ring. Michael Vick also admitted to gambling on the dog fighting.
During sentencing, Vick apologized once again to his family and to the court. Judge Hudson also told Vick that he needed to apologize to the millions of his fans, to which Vick replied, "Yes sir." After sentencing, Vick stated, "I'm willing to deal with the consequences and accept responsibility for my actions."
Michael Vick has already served one month in prison and his scheduled release from prison would be in October of 2009. Judge Hudson also sentenced Vick to 3 years of probation once his jail sentenced concluded. The sentencing from Judge Hudson was considered fair by most legal analysts although animal rights activists believed the sentencing was too light, stating that he should have received the full five year sentence under Atlanta state law.
