It seems, that since time began people have been fantasizing about apocalyptic events. The western fascination with the unexplained and prophecies of the end times, make it seem almost as if this is the desirable outcome at any given moment. While hundreds of prophecies have become famous for their
fallacy in the years succeeding them, none have yet shown themselves to be true accounts of the events to come. 2008 promises to be an exciting year for those who search the heavens for ill ( or not so ill) omens of our fates as we move forward into the future.

Astronomers have discovered numerous new comets this year. In fact the total is now up to 146 new comets discovered this year alone. Which according to experts like Sergei Smirnov of the Pulkovo Observatory, St. Petersberg is the largest comet swarm ever recorded. How does this figure into the world of the paranormal? Other than being a magnificent celestial occurrence for stargazers and astrologers, in Russian lore the latest of the discovered comets forewarns us of a great Earthquake that will occur on Christmas 2007. The supposition is that this comet would be a mystical recurrence of the star of Bethlehem in a twisted way. It would signal the coming of the 'Black Sun' rather than the birth of Christ, ultimately signaling the end times.

Another interesting prophecy to check out are the claims that the apocalypse begins on December 21, 2008 and that the final battle will be fought for exactly seven years, thus ending on December 21, 2012. while these dates make sense in certain context they are somewhat muddled by persons trying to fit them into the Biblical time frame. Whatever occurs there are certainly a number of interesting signs that are to be expected. A website called Apocalypse Prophesied details the ideas behind these time frames and claims that they are related to Tammuz and Hebrew prophesy. The link is included if you would like to check it out for yourself. Sylvia Brown fans will be comforted to know that she claims that the Apocalypse is not at hand, but rather that these similar events bear no relative importance to any Armageddon.
