In January of 2007 Oklahoma was hit with one of the worst ice storms in its history. Electricity was out for weeks and the clean up was still going on months later. Months after this historic weather event another ice storm hit the same area bringing downed power lines and slippery streets once more to the area.

The weather forecasters prediction of an ice storm headed for Oklahoma came true late Saturday night continuing thru Sunday and early Monday. Areas north and west of Tulsa were the worst hit receiving more than half an inch of pure ice on power lines, trees, bridges, and overpasses. This storm has already claimed the lives of five Oklahomans due to the slick streets.

The optimist forecast for the area states that by Monday afternoon the temperatures will rise just above freezing allowing the freezing rain and drizzle to turn into just plain old rain. By Tuesday and Wednesday what started out as an ice storm might possibly turn into flooding. Oklahoma weather has always been contrary and it looks like there is no arguing that fact this week.

Pictures mark the downed power lines and trees in the area affected by the ice storm as many people want to capture the beauty in the midst of a disaster. The best things for the people in this area to do during this time is to stay at home if at all possible only drive in a have-to case and take plenty of emergency supplies if travel cannot be avoided.
