Family Friendly New Year's Day Activities: Movies, Fireworks, Resolutions and More
Picture this: Dad sitting on the couch watching football, the kids locked away in their rooms playing with new Christmas toys, and Mom running around taking down the decorations, cooki
ng a huge meal, bringing Dad snacks, and keeping the peace between the kids. Sound like a normal New Year's Day to you? Well, here are ten tips to make this year's first day a family friendly event.
Ten...Have a BBQ
Invite family and friends over for a New Years Day BBQ. This takes mom out of the kitchen all day and gets dad excited too. The kids can join in the prep by making a vegetable tray. Let them wash and pat dry the carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, ect and arrange them on a tray for your guests. This let's your children feel like they contributed to the day.
Nine...Don't forget the fireworks
Check out the surrounding cities and see if any one is putting on a fireworks display. Pack up some little finger foods and drink boxes, pile in the car and enjoy. If you can't find a display near you, set off your own, just make sure to check your cities laws on firework bans.
Eight...Make it a game day
Chances are your children received games as a gift in the past couple of weeks. Pull them out and check them out. The children will love spending the day playing their new games, even more so because it is with you.
Seven...Have a movie day
Stay in your jammies all day long and watch movies cuddled up on the couch or floor. You could even choose a theme and watch movies only of the chosen theme, eat food only of the theme, even dress up according to the theme.
Six...Miniature Golf
A family favorite at our house is miniature golf. We love to play the outside courses, or the inside glow in the dark courses, but our favorite is to set up our own course in the house. Use books to make ramps, shoes as the hole, and empty paper towel rolls as the club.
Five...Choose your Resolutions
Sit everyone down and pick out what you would each like to improve on in the new year. You could make a game out of it by gathering all the resolutions and taking them to a dart board. See if you can get a bulls eye on your resolution.
