My husband got the Lodge 2-Piece Hot Handle Holder Set after I got burnt myself while handling the hot skillet. This is a very thoughtful gift and it comes in bright red and black red pepper design that compliments with the pan. The color combination looks so good and adds beauty to the holder. This is basically a handle holder made of cotton that is lined with silicone in the inner side. The cotton feels soft and gives good grip without any slip. It is the silicone material with its characteristic heat resistant property that keeps the holder cool to touch up to 325F.

The set of two holders come for $6 and this is definitely worth thee price. Though they are overrated and expensive, the kind of protection they offer from hot handle, it is worth investing in this. The highlight of the Lodge pans and other cast iron vessels is their ability to retain high temperature, but their handles are not designed to stay completely cool. I guess this is designed exclusively for the Lodge range of pans and skillets. I have used it for pan holders of 10 and 11 inch size only and hence do not have any idea whether it can be used for Calphalon or Le Creuset pans.

This is crafted in such a way that it fits perfectly to the handle of the Lodge pans and do not hang loose on the sides. It is very handy and comfortable to use. They are machine washable, but I prefer hand wash and get it cleaned using mild soap solution. These can be used to hold the pan while tossing the item, stirring the recipe, transferring the content to the bowl or even taking the pan out from the stove or microwave. Since this is made of cotton, they tend to catch fire and hence be cautious while using it on flame. This is not meant to protect you from fire, instead safeguards the user from getting the hand heated up from the hot pan. However the flames do not rise up to catch fire under normal conditions. Use it only when required and do not drop them in the oven or stove top.

I have been using it for more than a year and the other piece of the set is still lying unused. These are anytime better than the heavy pot holders that might disturb the balance of the pan or even the pliers.
