The Snapea Crisps from the Calbee is a wonderful crisp wafer like chips that can be either had just straight out of the packet or used to fill the salad for a twist. This looks almost like the natural green peas and in fact when I saw this on the packet, I mistook it to be some dehydrated or deep freezed peas. A close look at the picture revealed that it is not peas, but chips. This is basically made of natural green peas and the rice. The good news is that this rice crispy can be had by celiac and those who are sensitive to the wheat. Moreover it does not have the typical wheat smell.

This is a very simple recipe that gives a great tasting snack. The ingredients are mixed and then made into a fine uniform paste that is baked to form a green pea snack. I like the fact that the Snapea Crisps are baked and not deep fried in some oil. Hence it is not greasy and oily. However after eating them, I find some powder like residues settled in the fingers. The peas are in full shape and are not broken. They are thin and this is the only factor that makes them look different from the natural green peas.

I was just wondering whether they have added artificial colors to make it look naturally green. Recently I was told by one of my friends that this does not contain any trace of synthetic color and flavor and this made me love it all the more. Another thing that I love about the Calbee Snapea Crisps is that it is neither salty nor sugar coated. The amount of salt is perfect and does not contain MSG. So it is better than the salty high calorie chips or syrupy cookies for the tea time snack. They are light on stomach and do not make you feel heavy.

Most of them tend to munch this in large amount thinking that it is a healthy snack. I would like to say that this is only relatively healthy and not an ideal snack. So bite it in moderation and do not empty the bag in one sitting. Since this is not filling, you might eat the entire stuff without even realizing it. So it is better to have it in a separate bowl so that you have a control on the intake. This has good amount of vitamin C, goodness of the green peas, protein and fiber. The texture of the chips is delicately soft with crunchy taste.
