Though there are many wonderful aspects of pregnancy, women are often surprised to find that the third trimester arrives with some unexpected symptoms. Learn how to lessen the annoyance of these third trimester pregnancy symptoms.

Annoying Pregnancy Symptom: Itchy Belly

When your belly is stretched so far it feels like it will burst, it begins itching. Sometimes the itching is just annoying and sometimes it seems unbearable.

How to Deal with an Itchy Pregnant Belly

Use lots of lotion. A good quality moisturizer will make all the difference. Try a thick lotion like Eucerin. Apply it liberally several times a day, if needed. When you are showering or bathing, skip using soap on the belly. Soap can be very drying, which contributes to itching.

Annoying Pregnancy Symptom: Urinary Incontinence

No pregnant woman likes to admit to this, but the last month or two of pregnancy often makes one vulnerable to urinary incontinence. The added weight of the baby, placenta, amniotic fluid and the larger uterus all put a strain on the pelvic floor muscles. The baby will also enjoy bouncing on the mother's bladder like it was a trampoline. Every now and again, a pregnant woman will find herself rushing to the bathroom, hoping to make it on time. Sometimes, a seemingly small movement, such as a cough or even standing up, will be enough to set off pregnancy related urinary incontinence.

How to Deal with Pregnancy Related Urinary Incontinence

Kegels are the recommended exercise to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. They do work, but they take time and patience. Unfortunately, the extra stress of pregnancy on these muscles makes kegels seem less than successful at times. But, continued dedication to a kegel routine will get those muscles back in shape quickly during the post partum period. In the meantime, many pregnant women find they have to wear a pad during the last few months. Some can get by with a mini-pad and others need a little more protection.

Annoying Pregnancy Symptom: Snoring

Takeaways
  • Use a good quality lotion to soothe an itchy pregnant belly.
  • Do kegels every day to minimize pregnancy related urinary incontinence.
  • Sleep with your head elevated to reduce pregnancy induced snoring.

When I was in my third trimester, I spent more time in the bathroom than I did anywhere else in my house.

Well ok, but what do you do about drooling in your sleep? That's my latest issue. It's so gross. :-P

LOL great post! I dreaded a sneeze or a cough in T3. Like Heather, I also drooled a lot in T3. Funny what your body does.
