The Harlem Globetrotters
Family Entertainment, the Harlem Globetrotters
When I was a child I remember going to see the Harlem Globetrotters and having a blast! I decided to revisit that childhood memory and recently went with my husband to a Harlem Globetrotters game. It was still just as much fun as I remembered and was enjoyed by all age groups.
The Harlem Globetrotters are Goodwill Ambassadors and travel all over the world playing games and bringing entertainment to all. They have a history that spans over 80 years. Recently the Harlem Globetrotters did a 12 game military tour and will be heading to
Wilt Chamberlain started his career as a Harlem Globetrotter back in 1958! There are many well loved players that have played over the years, one I still remember from my childhood is Meadowlark Lemon who played with the Harlem Globetrotters for over 24 years!
Mannie Jackson bought the team in 1993. Since his ownership, he has donated over $11 million dollars to charity! Mannie has been honored by the African-American Sports Hall of Fame.
During the games there are numerous activities to keep all ages involved. If you have never been to a Harlem Globetrotter’s event, you don’t know what you are missing! You will be laughing as much as watching a ball game. There are various interruptions to the game as players find unique ways to distract their opponents as well as audience members! There is numerous times where audience participation is welcomed. The Harlem Globetrotters have a unique half-time show where a younger set of very talented teens make amazing shots using trampolines and their unique skills.
The price of admission is surely worth the entertainment received. The Harlem Globetrotters games are something for the entire family and something your children will thoroughly enjoy. Don’t be surprised if you ending laughing as much as they do!
At the end of the game, there is a short period of autograph signings on the court, so come prepared with a pen and paper or basketball to be signed. Don’t forget to wave to Globie, the Harlem Globetrotter’s mascot!
