It seems rare any more to find a year when there are so many good movies that picking a top 10 seems difficult, but 2007 was one of those years. To compile this list, started thinking about all the movies that I have seen this year, still want to see that were released this year, and the ones that I saw or didn't see that should never have been.

To be honest, I see a lot of movies, but usually only see two types in theater: horror movies and blockbusters. Everything else can wait, usually, until it's out on DVD or on Stars on Demand. Normally, I am pretty discerning about what I see in the theater. After all, tickets are $8 apiece and even the discount program I belong to makes them $5 each. The amount we pay to see a movie in the theater is about what it will cost us later to just buy the DVD and that's with just two of us.

So, with that in mind, I developed my top ten list for 2007, but not before eliminating some really big name movies and some that were very good. Three squeals released this year did not make the list, though they were solid movies, with some good points.

Spiderman 3-To anybody in Hollywood whose listening or even working right now: One villain. Superhero movies need one villain-not multiple-the return of the Green Goblin, the Sandman and the introduction of venom is too much for one movie. Decent special effects and an okay movie, but it felt too long and that's because there was too much going on.

Shrek the Third - I tried to like this movie. The half-dragon flying donkeys were potentially really cute, but the movie seemed preachy and sappy to me. It felt like they used all their good material in the first two and just rehashed it for this one.

The Bourne Ultimatum-I left the theater convinced that this movie deliberately misrepresented the National Security Administration. At one point, the NSA is monitoring millions of cell phone calls and monitors pick up the use of a single word in one call and trace it down to one person and do it quick enough that they can listen in on the remainder of the call. The person in me who wants to be safe and secure from any outside threat wishes the NSA were that good.
