A high cellular phone bill can cause an unexpected financial burden. Exercising self-control is important when using a cell phone. Many people make calls on their mobile not because they need to, but because they can. Yet, there are ways to reduce or drastically cut your cell phone bill. Consider the following tips for a lower cellular bill.

Select the Right Plan - Cellular phone plans are designed for different needs. For example, persons who rarely use their phone may opt for a plan under $25. Of course, plans of this sort offer few free minutes. On the other hand, if the cellular phone is used for business, a pricing plan with several hundred free minutes is more appropriate. Persons who constantly exceed their free minutes should consider upgrading their phone plan. On the flip side, if using less minutes downgrade to a cheaper phone plan.

Limit Text Messaging - Text messages make communicating with other cell users easy. Instead of calling, simply send a one or two line message. While convenient, text messaging is not free. Most cellular phone plans include a set number of free messages each month Afterwards users must pay for each additional message. Avoid a higher monthly bill by limiting the number of text messages you receive and send.

Wait Until Off-Peak Hours - Even though the majority of cell phone plans allow free nights and weekends, off peak hours may not begin until 9 P.M. If possible, wait until off peak hours to hold lengthy cell phone conversations.

Keep an Eye on the Clock - Cellular phones come equipped with timers for a reason. While talking on the cell phone during peak hours, keep conversations to a minimum. We all have long winded friends who are famous for monopolizing precious cell phone minutes. Yet, there is a simple way to alleviate this problem - don't answer the phone during peak hours. Instead, let the caller leave a voicemail, and call them back on a regular telephone line.

Takeaways
  • Choosing the right plan is great for lowering cell phone bill.
  • Keep cell phone bills low by limiting text messaging.
  • If possible, only the cell phone during off peak hours.

Amen to that brother. I bought the cell phone simply because I COULD afford to use it.

Does this sound to anyone else like "Ways to Reduce Your Cell Phone Bill: Don't use your cell phone." I mean honestly. Limit text messaging, don't answer on peak hours, and don't talk very long on your cell phone. That's like saying "You can save money on your laundry bill by not doing laundry"!!! In all things be conservative but if you can't afford to use a cell phone don't buy one. We don't need to be told not to answer the phone to save money.
