It is not difficult to see why many people think that San Diego is among the best places to live in the United States -- or at least why it is such a popular tourist destination. Behold the awesomeness that is San Diego, California:

San Diego is home to more than a million people. In California, only Los Angeles is bigger. Only five other cities in the whole country are larger, and yet San Diego still has that quiet, laid-back "small town vibe." Maybe it's the declining crime rate.

The climate, the climate, the climate! The average annual high temperature is about 70°; for us, "cold" means 55°. This means, of course, that you can go swimming on just about any day of the year. And that leads, of course, to:

Gray whales! They are cavorting, sporting, and migrating through the waters off the coast of San Diego from December to March. There are plenty of places in San Diego to what you can from the shore, and also both tours if you want to get closer

Twenty-three miles south of us is the city of Tijuana --which not at all a place to be scared of. Tijuana is hospitable, has lively nightlife, and great shopping and food. Tijuana is even bigger than San Diego, and is one of our sister cities.

Flowers of every variety in every conceivable combination all over the place. The warm, dry climate is perfect for roses and exotic flowers. There is always something blooming all the time. Check out the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden.

The beaches! Everything from dog beaches to state parks to Be careful, though; each beach has its own rules. Always read the signs before you step out and do something rash.

Nightlife! You like country dancing? Karaoke? Poetry slams? Hot and cold running Shakespeare (the Old Globe Theatre)? Any other kind of live theater? Live jazz? It's here.

Did you know The Comedy Store is in San Diego?

The San Diego Zoo! One hundred acres of animals (pandas, even)! And when you've looked at them as much as you want to, you can tour the veterinary center and the research lab. You can see even more flowers.

I live about 9 hours or so north of San Diego. The closest I've come to San Diego is Oceanside. I'd love to visit though. It sounds like my kind of city. Sophie
