Origin
This song needs an introduction to some but I think many will recognize some of the lyrics. It has been done by many artists, such as Dusty Springfield, but this version adds a bit of "soul" by Annie Lennox doing a duet with Al Green. "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" reached #9 in the charts back in 1988.
Listen to it on my blog at http://gugiesworld.blogspot.com. It won't be up forever, as it will change every few days.
Discovery
I first heard this song in the 1988 cult Christmas classic, "Scrooged", starring comedy legend, Bill Murray, along with an all-star cast. It's one of my favorite Bill Murray movies back in his golden years. I'm betting that, anyone who knows the movie, recognizes the song, "Put a Little Love in Your Heart". It was sang during the movie and used at the end and throughout the credits, in which ol' Bill leads a lengthy, but awesome ending.
Meaning
This song is sad and happy on its own but "Scrooged" and Bill make it seem even more special. For some reason, it used to make me teary-eyed as a kid. There's just something about Bill, the spirits, the homeless guy, who froze outside, Claire and her past with Bill's scrooge character, the usual Christmas Carol sadness and cheerfulness, and more just culminates in a powerful message, which were nowhere near as powerful as the combined aspects/scene. I think it's a mediocre Scrooge, for the most part, otherwise.

That's it until my next song - coming at you soon, Gugie Style!
