Roses are beautiful to have in any garden. Having a bunch of them, here are some tips that I have learned over the days.I buy them small.
When I plant them, I make sure to soak the roots in lukewarm water for an hour before planting. Chop up a banana peel and mix it in with the potting soil before planting. The Potassium in the peel provides good nutrition for the plants hence those planted in ‘banana soil' thrive.
Planting should be in a spot where they will get a minimum of six hours of sunlight each day.
For the soil, my mixing formula is 2:1:1: two parts regular soil, one part humus and one part manure.
To soak them, I simply take them out of the container, fill a large bucket with lukewarm water (not cold or hot, because then that will shock the roots - use lukewarm water) and soak the roots in the bucket while preparing the soil and chopping the banana peelings.
I prune them to keep them healthy and from being too bushy. I locate where the first five-leaf is and cut.
Caring for roses involves watering them everyday, pruning them once a week and feeding them Miracle Gro Rose Food mixed with Superthrive once every two weeks. It works like a plant hormone and helps the roses reach their full potential.
Roses have a large root system, so I make sure that I am watering about two to three feet from the base of the bush in addition to the bush itself. An important pointer is that roses love to eat.
Most gardening shops will have these supplies handy and advice about the soil types in your neighborhood.
Enjoy!
