Holidays are such an important part of each countries tradition along with supporting its culture. Some of the most popular holidays on earth either revolve around the Christian belief such as Easter and Christmas however there are other popular ones such as Independence Day, New Year Day, and Valentines and so on. Then there are strange and weird holidays that really have no meaning besides the mere purpose to have an excuse to celebrate something. Have you ever wondered what is going on around the world today?

Today marks the 347th day of the year!

18 days left this year!

Here is what is going on today around the world:

1. United States:

*National Cocoa Day: Today celebrates everyone's favorite seed, the cocoa seed! There is no exact date associated with the discovery of the cocoa seed to be used in cocoa production however today is celebrated in honor of the first ones being used in the Andes in the Amazon and Orinoco basins of South America.

*Clip-on Tie Day: Today commemorates the invention of the clip-on tie in 1928.

*Ice Cream Day: Although President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as Ice Cream month in 1984, today is known by many as Ice Cream Day.

*Violin Day: There is no direct origin to this holiday I believe it has to deal with the holiday season. Violins are very much as part of a holiday tradition as Christmas cookies are to the festivities.

*Porsche Production Day: Today in 1930, Porsche begins making cars.

*Vanna White Day: Today in 1982, Vanna White from the television game show, Wheel of Fortune, turned over her 1st letter which was a "T". Did you know that she was one of the first contestants to "come on down" on The Price is Right in 1980?

*Battle of Fredericksburg: Today is the end of the battle in Fredericksburg, Virginia, from December 11 to December 15, 1862 during the American Civil War.

*World War II: In 1941 Hungary and Romania declare war on the United States.

*Amy Hartzler Birthday: Born in 1981 as Amy Lynn Lee she is known for her career as the lead singer of Evanescence.

*Jamie Foxx Birthday: Born in 1967, he is an American actor.

this is too funny.... my sister called me late last night and told me she bought two ties for my nephew's choir performance today.... a real one and a clip on because neither of them know how to tie a tie and her husband is overseas. My recommedation was the clip on... and for Christmas...from their grandpa.. tie lessons!!!

I'll be sipping on some hot coco (I know it's not the same, but I'll take any excuse), eating ice cream, and watching Wheel of Fortune! As usual this is great!
